Everything you need to know about The Love Club's Thingamabobs

The Love Club, founded by artist Kyla Estoya, is a mini-campaign in cultivating kindness. It is also the home of The Thingamabobs: Juju, Søren, Anyag, Mars, and Tipsy.

In some artworks/illustration, you will find two separate characters who are not considered as Thingamabobs (but significant to the lore) Frog and Person.

In Kyla's works, Person and Tipsy extend outside The Love Club narration, and are often associated with another project called One of Them, which establishes the broader framework for Kyla's world.

The Thingamabobs

Juju

Juju - Poster
Juju was introduced as the leader of the group. She is light blue, a pink heart on her chest, and usually drawn with an aura behind her. The aura's colors are consistent and does not change. They are as follows: bright green, orange, red, blue, and dark green.

She is a motherly figure to the rest of the Thingamabobs and Person. She is the face of The Love Club and she is often associated with cultivating kindness and illustrated to things relating to plants.

In Book 1 of Kyla's watercolor comics, she was introduced lost in a garden where she finds Frog.

Juju is rarely drawn talking. She is also the tallest and biggest Thingamabob.

Søren

Soren reading
Søren is named after the Danish philosopher, Søren Kierkregaard. Even though it is not implied how old the Thingamabobs are, it is implied that Søren may be the youngest. He is mustard yellow and the smallest of the five. He is always illustrated with a blue heart that is either being held, resting on his head, or next to him. The blue hearts show up every time Søren learns something.

He is a persona of Kyla's old blog series called #whatIlearnedtoday, where she would post silly and mundane facts as if she was a child that had just learned it. Søren would then takeover this "segment" by representing The Love Club's sharing of wisdom through child-like wonder.

Søren and Anyag

Despite being the youngest, Søren is often depicted as the wisest because of his purity and wholesomeness. On his first appearance he was described as "..likes building and making stuff from scratch. He is clumsy at most times but he's known to be a great friend. Like the peanut butter kid, the only thing I heard Søren say is, "Ah", and usually it means he just discovered something."

Throughout time, however, Søren is sometimes drawn saying complete sentences.

Anyag with santan flowers

Anyag

Anyag is a pink Thingamabob and was introduced to be The Love Club's mascot in supporting local businesses and artists. Her name is a Waray word for beautiful and it is implied that she is Waray. She is drawn holding a heart that represents the Philippine flag.

In recent illustrations, Anyag is represented differently where she is no longer limited to her "patriotic" domain.

Anyag and Søren are frequently depicted together, hinting at their close childhood bond. Their similar ages make them natural playmates. It is also implied that they both know something about Person[1] and Tipsy[2], but it was never revealed what it was.

In the watercolor comics, she was shown alone in a dark abandoned city. She would later find a door/portal where she would be reunited with Juju.

Mars rollerskating

Mars

Another persona from Kyla's blog, Mars was introduced as mascot for sharing playlists. Later on, that would expand to literature, film, and other cool hobbies. He is green with a red heart on his chest, and he is almost always with his purple headphones. He was named by Kyla's brother, who is also someone who is musically inclined.

In most cases, he is illustrated as indifferent, annoyed, and extremely focused. In the first few years, he was often illustrated with Søren, who he treats as a little brother.
Person's breakup
In 2023, Kyla posted a series of images that reimagines Thingamabobs are DnD characters[3]. In this post, she hints on Mars stealing something important[4]. Since then, Mars' illustrations carry more depth and fun, where he is often depicted with Person and him having an argument[5] or Person teasing him about what he stole[6].

Mars is technically the teenager of the group. He is often with Tipsy and Person.

Tipsy

Tipsy in space

Tipsy was the last Thingamabob introduced.

After consecutively posting about each Thingamabob, Kyla skipped almost a week before introducing Tipsy. He is another persona for Kyla's blog series, drunken monologues (thus his name) where she would take what people say out of context and just enumerate them.

Tipsy is the only Thingamabob that can fly. He is dark purple with a crooked heart on his chest, was the only Thingamabob that came with a complicated lore[7].

Due to the fact that Tipsy is present in Kyla's oil paintings and darker artworks, it is obvious that Tipsy is indeed "one of them" in One of Them. In the paintings, he is illustrated as a corrupted "being" since he is not pure white like the others. At the same time, he is also painted far behind the main subject, a dark celestial woman, implying that he is slowly drifting away from her.

Other Characters

Person

One of the many drawings of Frog Series

Person was created separately along with other unnamed human characters on Kyla's journals and sketchbooks called Frog Series.

The point of the drawings was to illustrate suppressed strong feelings (mostly anger and sadness) uttered under someone's breath while a smiling frog rests on their shoulders or head.
Early drawings of Person and Frog
One of the characters, a short-haired woman, wearing orange and blue, was more constant in the series than others. The familiarity of how she's drawn, made it easier to embed her in the world the Thingamabobs.

She was first introduced sleeping on a couch next to Tipsy and Mars. Immediately after, Kyla published an artwork where Person and all Thingamabobs are frozen, eyes wide and vacant. She doesn't show up again until Book 1 of the watercolor comics.

After the comics, Person was drawn again without the Thingamabobs, and was often depicted as lost or confused.

Frog

Frog is the same frog in the Frog Series.

On most cases, he wears a crown. This is never explained.

Everyone likes Frog.
